Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is raw honey?
A: Raw honey is honey that hasn’t been pasteurised or processed. All our honey is raw, meaning it retains its natural nutrients, enzymes, and pollen - the good stuff often lost during heat treatment and ultra-filtration. We will never sell honey that's pasteurised or adulterated.
Q2: What is honeydew honey?
A: Honeydew honey is a special type of honey made not from flower nectar, but from the sweet, sticky secretions (called honeydew) left by certain insects like aphids on tree leaves and bark. It tends to be darker, richer, and less sweet than regular floral honey, with a unique, malty flavour and higher mineral content. Our Greek Oak & Fir honey are classed as honeydew honey.
Q3: Is honey good for you?
A: Absolutely, and that's why we supply only the best raw honey we can source due to its incredible health benefits. Honey is rich in antioxidants, supports digestion, soothes sore throats, aids wound healing, and has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also a natural energy booster - all without the need for additives or processing.
Q4: Does honey expire?
A: Pure honey doesn’t expire if stored properly. This means you can eat it past its best before date! Raw honey will crystallise over time (the time frame varies as to how quick) but this is a natural and harmless process that doesn’t affect its quality or safety.
Q5: Why does honey crystallise?
A: Crystallisation occurs when the natural glucose in honey forms crystals. It’s completely normal and doesn’t mean the honey has gone bad. Many people love crystallised honey but if you prefer, you can return it to its original state.
Q6: How do I return crystallised honey back to its original state?
A: Gently place the jar in warm water filled up to the side (maximum 40°C as the bee hives generally wouldn't get hotter than this) and stir until it melts. Ensure no water gets into the jar!
Q7: How should I store honey?
A: Keep honey in a tightly sealed container (like the jar we send it in) at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Please do not refrigerate it.
Q8: Can I cook or bake with honey?
A: Definitely! Honey is a versatile natural sweetener, perfect for both cooking and baking. It adds moisture, flavour, and a touch of natural goodness to any dish. It's a fantastic alternative to table sugar so you can also put it in your tea, coffee or smoothies.
